I bought Betty, a funky mid-century modern chair, at a yard sale a few weeks ago.
For $1.
Yes, someone was getting rid of her for the price of a hashbrown at Mickey D's.
I call her Betty in honor of Betty Draper of Mad Men fame, of course.
Betty has sexy legs and is very stylishly dressed for the era, even though she may look a little chubby at certain angles. Don't we all?
Betty is not perfect though. She's a little rough around the edges. She's seen a lot in her lifetime.
She was made by the B. L. Marble Chair Company up the road from here in Bedford, Ohio. And I like a girl with Ohio connections.
Now, I've got two decisions. Do I keep her or sell her?
And if I sell her, do I recover her first or let her go to someone who appreciates original fabric and such.
Either way, I think she's sort of sexy.
For a middle aged girl.
What do you think?
Keep her because she's cool and funky? Sell her because she's mean to Sally worth a few more bucks than I paid for her?

Cover!!
I'd sell because I'm lazy & it'd sit here for years.. I'd never get around to it.

She's definitely a keeper.

That's a tough one, Pam. The chair is awesome, but knowing I'd never get around to recovering it without completely ruining the piece, I'd sell it for big bucks! Your adoring fans await your decision. 🙂

clean that wood up and cover in a contemporary bold fabric. I have some vintage waiting room chairs in his man cave....very comfy and look great 🙂

Oh yeah! you gotta keep. Nice lines. I would paint and recover (no judging please) because I like to paint everything 🙂 and you have to admit, mid century had some amazing colors to work with.
Make her snazzy!

Keep and recover. Here's a chance to use those fancy larger-than-life upholstery scissors!

Too many mis spellings...I am rewriting...I'd paint it shiny white and add hot pink fabric...

Recover her, keep her, love her! You never know when you'll find another one! Personally, I would keep her if she were mine!

I think she is a keeper. What a sweet chair. How could you say good bye to her. I think if you recover her she is going to look too sweet for words. Good luck. Can't wait to see what you do with her Pam.

Are you on crack or something? YOU MUST KEEP HER! SHE IS AMAZING! Ok, so that wasn't very nice of me. But really, don't let her go. Love your blog, have read it for the past few years and never commented. Don't you just hate that? Since I am commenting now, I will also tell you that I have so many of your photos pinned and love every inch of your house. Crap, now I sound like a creepy stalking non commenter. That is all. 🙂

You made me spit my drink out onto my computer screen! I guess you really love it then? lol BTW, thanks for pinning my stuff. No, it's not creepy stalker-ish in the least ((she says as she runs to lock the front door)).

I want you to keep her, but for selfish reasons. I figure if you recover her, you will post an awesome step by step blog of the process, and then I can finally recover my office chair! Win win for both of us, don't you think?
