    Springfield Antique Show and Extravaganza

Published by Pam Kessler | 604 words. · About 4 minutes to read this article. - 16 Comments

Last weekend was a busy one in Columbus, Ohio.

The Country Living Fair was in town. Plus the Springfield Antique Show and Extravaganza was taking place about a hour's drive from here. A girls kind of weekend!

Originally my plan was to go to the CL Fair on Friday while my son was at school and the Springfield Antique Show on Saturday. Well, my son was sick on Friday with a nasty cold, so not able to do the CL Fair that day. I was disappointed, but a sick kiddo always beats out a shopping trip. And that just left all the more money to spend on the Springfield show on Saturday.

Now, this was my first time going to Springfield and I was not disappointed. Springfield is normally listed in Country Living's list of Best Antique Shows and for good reason. They had over 2,000 vendors and I did not see a single vendor that was not worth looking at. Yes, some vendors had overblown ideas of what their stuff was worth, but there were plenty of vendors who had fair prices and some that even had really cheap prices. When I first walked into the place I was totally overwhelmed with the size of the show. Antiques and vintage items as far as your eyes could see and then some.

So I imagine you want to see all the stuff I bought, right? My big old pile of vintage finds?

    Feast your eyes on . . .

    Old galvanized can can.

. . . my one and only purchase of the day.

A galvanized can with a spout. I don't even know its original purpose, but I was sort of feeling the farmhouse look of it. No I don't have a lid for it, but it was only $2.00 and I am picturing using it as a vase.

Why didn't I buy more stuff? The problem was that my husband wanted to go with me on Saturday.

I tend to be a solitary shopper. Although I love the company of others, I get distracted by other people's thoughts and opinions and then start second guessing why I really need another porcelain door knob or McCoy vase. And husbands have thoughts and opinions galore.

Honestly, my husband has never told me not to buy anything. But, he doesn't have the same taste in rusty, crusty stuff as I do. And all it takes is a little "it sure is rusty" or "it's falling apart" comment to blow my shopping mo jo.

Oh, well. At least I got to see a lot of really neat stuff.

Speaking of, I took my camera along like any good blogger does, but only took one photo all day.

    Metal pink flamingo sculptures.

Yeah, doesn't exactly capture the essence of the show. After taking this huge metal pink flamingo photo I realized that it was just too packed of a venue to take photos and not get random bodies, arms or butts into the shots. So I gave up my romantic thoughts of artsy antique shopping photos.

Well, I have roofers replacing my roof today. For those of you with me last year, you'll remember my post about the little wind storm/tornado we had go past the house. Seems it caused a lot of roof damage that we didn't even realize at the time.

I had no idea it was going to be so traumatic to have a bunch of guys stomping around on my roof and making loud banging noises. I may have to hide in the basement for a while to escape the noise (if I can get an internet signal down there).

I went with my husband on Saturday too! Can't believe I didn't run into you....well actually, yes I can! that place is huge!

I bought a few things, but then around 3pm, we ran across the guy with the locker basket units and we splurged on one. We had to go to the ATM, that much of a splurge! Did you see them? He was kind of close to Schmidt's.

      Hope you had fun!

Wow, 2,000 vendors is exciting. I think you have an oil can there but I could be wrong - it is very farm style.

If I've posted twice and am not supposed to...please forgive me.

I would love to win this give away...so I'm crossing everything I have...lol

You all have a wonderful weekend.

My oldest daughter, one grandaughter and two great grands will be here this evening late to spend the weekend with me...I'm so excited.

Sorry that your son got sick. I hope he is better now.
My husband usually does not go with me. I never buy much when he goes. Plus I feel like I have to be in a hurry because I know he is bored.
I have gone before by myself. I can skip all the booths I don't care to look at.
When I met up with the girls from the restroom(hah) at CL Fair it was fun. I would have probably seen the whole fair instead of half though. But I had fun with them. Sometime I want to go to Springfield.

I'm with you. I love shopping alone too! I like to scan, then go on my way. Stopping at booths that are appealing.
I think we are pros at this!
For a minute, I thought you bought a Flamingo:)
      Hee, Hee!
Thanks for you comment. It was time to change my header!

We have a show like this in NC, The Liberty Antique Festival. It is so big but has great goodies. I love the can, I have been trying to find the perfect one with the round spout.

I am a new follower and enjoy your blog. I have a new blog also & it would be great if you would check it out and follow me. Thanks 🙂

Sounds like a neat experience. I would probably be terribly overwhelmed with all those vendors! Love the can. I can just see it filled with all sorts of pretty wildflowers!

2,000 vendors ~ SQUEAL!!! I have a big antique market that happens once a month and it's this Sunday. I always have big plans of taking lovely pics and it never happens. I'm glad you were able to get away, even if your shopping was a bit hampered.

I've never been to the CL shows mainly because they are so far away from me. I hope you get to go next year and talk pics for those of us who can't go! The Springfield show sounds great, too! The flamingos are huge!!!

I wanted to go so bad and I was in Springfield visiting with friends from high school. If she had had her get together later in the afternoon I would have got there early and then gone on to her cookout. There's always next time. I love shopping with my husband, BUT, I always warn him if I pick up something that he can't understand why I am picking it up to buy, he is not to say anything BECAUSE there is a REASON...lol...don't mean to sound like a dictator but we have been through this before and then like you, I might start second guessing myself. This is especially true when we go garage saleing. I like your metal can, but not exactly sure what it was used for. My first thought is it had something to do with oil or gas? I am sure you will find the right vignette for it and it will look great!~Hugs, Patti
