Time to unveil my thrifty finds of the week. There's not a lot of them, but they are some of my favorites finds so far.
I nabbed this awesome Hull Pottery vase at Goodwill yesterday. This is the first thing I have ever found at Goodwill. EVER. Now, I have found things at Volunteers of America and Salvation Army, but Goodwill finds have eluded me. Until now.
I have recently started collecting vintage white and cream colored vases, so this vase jumped right off the shelf and into my hands at the store. It begged me to buy it and give it a better life in a home that would love it and nurture it. I couldn't say no.
This thing is fairly large - approximately 9" tall by 9"" wide and weighs 2 ¼ pounds.
When I bought it I had an inkling of what kind of vase it was. I mean it had the feel of a Hull or McCoy piece (heavy, matte glaze, aged look), but it just had USA on the bottom with a the number 47-9 on it. It wasn't until I got home and researched it did I find that it was indeed a Hull piece.
And although not a thrift store find, I love this license plate. I bought it at Polly of Sassafras Stuff 's booth in Lancaster. I was down there to check out her new fall display which I absolutely loved, but while there I found this license plate on sale. And how often is something ever on sale at an antique store?
Look, it's from 1925. Not that that particular year means anything at all to me, but 1925!!!
And it has the same look as my subway sign which is what drew me to it in the first place.
I haven't found a permanent place for it yet, but I have a vision in my head. I will show it to you when I have it in place.

I came across the same pottery piece but its not white. its pink on top, cream in the middle and blue on the bottom and the handles. it also says USA 47 -9". Beautiful piece of pottery.

I've seen it at antique stores in that color version! Love it!

Sarah - When I found the vase I Googled "Hull 45-9" and it pulled up some that had been on ebay.
There's also a Hull Pottery Association that has some photos on the site. And then Collector's Weekly has a history of Hull Pottery. But I have found that ebay is about the best way to find a rough value of things I find at thrift stores and yard sales. Look at what they have sold for in the past, not necessarily what they are currently listed for (you check the box that says Show Only Completed Listings on the left hand side).
Sarah
I rescued a beautiful vintage vase today, at a thrift store, which brought me to your post. Mine says 454 USA, where did you research and find out the value of yours?

Gorgeous vase, Pam.

Pam- How really cool to have found a plate from way back when! I don't like one of the current plates with the hokey farm scene on it- do you? LOL
Love white things, so I sure do like this vase! I never find things at GW, either. Does your region of OH Goodwill stores even have sales at their stores? Dayton does not. I see all these great buys from other parts of the country at GW and wonder why area stores don't participate.
Hope you're enjoying the weather- it has been a little warm though. No rain, either. The AC kicked on yesterday, too. Typical OH weather- unpredictable! *grin*

OMG - that vase is wonderful! You are one lucky girl, for sure! And I love that you "rescued" it. That is the way I feel when I find those special things that just cry out for you to bring them home and love them. Excellent!

I love the vase! I especially love that it is marked USA, you hardly see that any more on anything.

Perfect vase-I would have guessed McCoy..but Hull is great too! I love when you just walk in and see something that is just perfect and know it was meant to be. I'm also liking your old license plate! Hugs- Diana

Love that vase!! I believe that MC Coy sometimes just stamped USA on the bottom of their pottery.
Who ever it is, it is a fantastic find!! Lucky you!!
