I was always able to grow it with no effort. We had it in Minnesota easy. My grandma always made her own bread and made rhubarb jam or sauce. She gave it to us on the farm when we came to stay to keep us regular! From the first bite I fell in love with it! My grandma made jam out of many berries. I remember choke cherry jam. I have never found choke cherries out of Minnesota. For many years now, since in Kentucky, I just buy rhubarb at the grocery store.

See, grandmas love rhubarb! It's an older person's vegetable!

A friend's mom grew it and I used to get it every summer for pies. The family growing it didn't like it and they gave it to me - free! I love strawberry rhubarb pies. My family eats them as well. I've never had any rhubarb left over to use in jams. Now I have to buy rhubarb at the supermarket - my friends cut it down and quit using it. Anything considered heirloom is worth keeping!

My mother never fooled with it, but my grandma did. Rhubarb crumble! Oh, yum!
