Sometimes when you are blogging, you tend to go a little overboard in decorating. Fall front porch ideas get a little over the top and the next thing you know you're building a full size replica of Lizzie Borden's parlor on your front porch for Halloween. It's just a hazard of the job.
So in the middle of shopping for a Lizzie period dress, I came to the realization that I just wanted to do a typical non-blogging-Pam front porch. Nothing too over the top and nothing that will make cars passing on the street stop and gawk.
Lizzie with a hatchet would have surely made a few cars stop. Some with lights and sirens on them.
So this is my sweet and simple, laid-back fall porch.
Other than the bowl of apples, damn you Gala apples, the rest of the stuff will sit on my porch until after Thanksgiving.
This humongo pumpkin is my favorite thing on the porch. It has got to be close to 100 pounds.
Normally it would be one of those instance where I would want to try to see how it looks on each side of the door and then move it an inch this way and then an inch that way.
But after my husband and I managed to somehow actually get it up onto the porch and I asked my husband to scooch it over an inch or two and I got the look (i.e. no one is going to get a hernia over this stupid pumpkin), it just stayed where we dropped it.
Yep, looks good there!
Lizzie and her parents will have to wait until next year for their debut.

Love your sweet porch. Would love to know where you got the throw on the bench!!!
Pam
I'm probably not going to be a lot of help, but I've had that for YEARS. It probably came from Walmart.

Thank you, Pam. I have looked for a plaid fall throw that I can use on my front porch, and have been unable to find one. I will have to keep looking, and Walmart will be one place I will check.

I hope you took that beautiful bowl inside! A bowl like that is the one thing of my mom's that the four sisters will probably fight over!
Very peaceful back porch. I could sit and read a long book there.

I think it all looks lovely although I thought that giant pumpkin might be inflatable. It is BIG. Your husband might not want to move it an inch here or there but I can promise you my husband would have refused getting it in the car, let alone up on the porch!

Pam,
Your Fall porch is wonderful. I am like you... I usually only put a couple of things out - a black cat and a few carved pumpkins. Wherever did you get that gorgeous pumpkin? It's so bright and big. I hope you are enjoying the Fall days. Your house looks very nice. Do you know one of my favorite things to look at are front porches? I want to get a pumpkin like that now for my porch.

Pam, what can I say? You had me at Lizzie Borden. First I was nodding then I was smiling and when I got to your husband's "look" I was laughing. I can SO relate to this post. And I love your porch, BTW, much more calm and peaceful looking than Lizzie's parlor. I'm your new follower, thanks for stopping by Gwen Moss blog. Glad to meet you.

That pumpkin is going to stop at least a few cars...hopefully the ones without lights and sirens!!!
You did a great job!!!
Keeping it Cozy
I absolutely love your sweet and simple porch! And I know exactly what you mean... sometimes it is easy to feel like we have to do more but I often have to remind myself that the look I really like IS simple. Wow... that is a huge pumpkin! I have to be careful every time I drive past the farmer's market that I keep my eye on the road instead of looking at all the gigantic pumpkins! 🙂
