I stopped by Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus yesterday to see if the Boy Scouts had put the flags out for Memorial Day yet.
They had.
So many flags.
I would dare anyone not to tear up at the beauty of it. The deep meaning of it.
Today is a day to remember those who have died for their country. That deeper meaning sometimes gets lost in the three day weekend, picnics, mattress sales and all that jazz. So take a moment to reflect on where our country would be if not for the ultimate sacrifice of these men and women.
Thank you to all who have served.
You can see more of the beauty of Green Lawn Cemetery in my Memorial Day post from 2011.

It is very sad to visit a flag wrapped cemetery anytime

Very thoughtful post Pam. We do tend to forget what the day is all about. There was a documentary on a few years ago where they interviewed war widows of all ages. It's hard to comprehend how many young men lost their lives protecting our country.

My son stopped in not too long ago after going to his buddy's grave ( from the Iraq war ) He posted a picture on FB saying " beer. 'cause dudes don't buy flowers" So there is a six pack of beer by the grave and that set me to tears as much as flags do ...

We have a cemetery like that here, too...a sea of white headstones...overwhelming.

The real meaning of the holiday does get lost. Thanks for reminding us.
Musings from Kim K.
We were up and out of the house very early this morning with Emma's marching band and a full service at our local cemetery. A wonderful history lesson to share with Josie.
