It's time.
The peonies are here!!!
I know. Crazy, right? After this incredibly stupid winter and totally frustrating spring, the peonies decided to put on a show after all.
This vibrant pinkish-purple variety is called Victoire de la Marne. The "official" books call it a purple-red variety, but I swear mine are always more of a dark hot pink.
BTW, this photo is straight out of the camera, except for the watermark. If I would have tweaked it at all, the peonies may have blinded you.
Duchesse de Nemours is a beautiful white one. I can see this in a wedding bouquet. It's very virginal!
And my Sarah Bernhardt would be a delicate light pink, if it was actually blooming on time. This is the only bud that is even remotely close to opening right now.
Well, I'm off to some garage sales today, field day at my son's school, grocery shopping and buying some more flowers for the garden. And no really huge plans this weekend, just the normal picnic and parade-type stuff.
What are you up to this weekend?
Melinda
Such pretty flowers.
My biggest plan for the weekend is
getting over over the laryngitis
I picked up at the end of my school
year!
Enjoy your holiday weekend.

I can relate to your love for this dainty ladies. I fell in love with Peonies when I was 5 years old. My grandmother had five peonies shrubs in her backyard. I have always wanted them but never had the opportunity to grow any. I hope to have some next year.

Very pretty! Our lilacs might actually bloom in the next few days!

Bring on the peonies! We're a few weeks out, but I love them so. We transplanted several of them from my late grandparents house to our own. Enjoy your Memorial weekend.

I only have one peony bush, and it always rains the week it blooms so the blossoms hang near the ground! Yours are beautiful. I am planting this weekend and so happy to be outside.

I have got to plant me some peonies! I had them in our previous yard, and after seeing your gorgeous photos, I'm going to buy some this weekend and get them planted! I don't think they bloom for the first couple years, so about 3 years from now I'll take some photos of mine. 🙂
Have a great weekend!

Not a peony in sight here so it's so nice to be blinded by yours! I have a long list of yard sales for tomorrow (oddly, very few today) and then a trip into the city to see friends. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Love the big fluffy white ones. Don't you just love the smell of them too? I have pink and red, now I need that white.

I love them. Gorgeous peonies! I think I need to plant some!! Did you find anything good at the garage sales?

Love your Peonies--my pink ones are just starting to open. But this is Oregon--and of course it is raining cats and dogs!

Our peonies haven't quite burst yet. The poppies have, though.

I love Sarah Bernhardt. I think that's the variety I have too. I'll have to check mine out today and see how they're coming along. I had a garage sale yesterday...ugh, it was horrible. Hope you have a good weekend!

Sarah Bernhardt is my favorite. They smell so good and just look gorgeous in a bouquet!
