In reply to suzieQ. Well, I did swish it around in soapy water before I used it the first time. Before I used it again, I actually used a Brillo pad and a toothbrush to get all the 60 year old gunk off of it :)

I'm very afraid of anything sharp. I am still using steak knives I've had for close to 40 years. I know the dull ones are the worst. But a big sharp knife just sends shivers down my spine. The tomato you trashed did its bit for the authenticity of your blog, so it's being trashed was not in vain...

I love these old time-saving devices. Until the tomato has to be thrown out and a new one cut up (with a knife?) Sounds exactly like something that would happen in my kitchen but at least your slicer now has a new lease on life. How cute would it be displayed with a tomato pic? 🙂
