No, I'm not off my diet. Yet.
I'm buying the other type of Brownies. The Kodak variety.
I found this Brownie Hawkeye (manufactured from 1949-1961) at our town's annual yard sale last weekend.
I think I've decided that the #1 reason I love old Brownies is their bakelite bodies. There's something very sexy about them.
Since I haven't done a good "Hey, look what I found" post lately, I thought I'd better get you up to date.
I about peed my pants when I found this gorgeous apple bowl made by Fire King for $4 at a yard sale.
How 'bout them apples?
At the same house, I also bought this McCoy mixing bowl for $4.
It was a four-buck bowl kind of place.
I bought these on Saturday and the lady having the sale just about gave me heart palpitations when she said "Oh, if you like bowls you should have been here yesterday. I had a really big green McCoy bowl that I got rid of".
First of all, "got rid of" and "McCoy" don't belong in the same sentence. Second of all, Holy Schmoly! Why didn't I stop by this house on Friday!!!
Oh, that's right. I volunteered to work the field day at my son's school. On a Friday. During prime yard sale season. The things we do for our kids 🙂
I am drawing a total blank on where I bought this first aid kit. Pretty sure it was a yard sale. No idea where. I didn't even take a photo of it and put it on Instagram, which is really weird.
I'm sure it was a fantastic deal though!
I found these Burns Manufacturing serrated knives at a yard sale for 25 Cents. For the bunch. Not each. Not that even at 25 cents a piece that would be a bad deal!
I've seen the handles described on Etsy and Ebay as butterscotch bakelite. Not sure if they're just hyping up the knives by calling them bakelite or not, but they are nice knives either way.
The sewing machine drawer and milk glass salt and pepper shakers were bought at another sale for $5 for the lot.
I'm usually weird about actually using my vintage salt and pepper shakers, but these are large enough that I can soak them real good and get all the mouse droppings dirt and grime out of them, so I may just end up using them.
I bought this fan along with the hammered metal serving tray in the next photo for $1.37.
At the time, I only had a $20 on me and a bunch of change in the bottom of my purse. The lady didn't have change for my twenty, so I tried to pay her in small coinage. By the time I had counted out $1.37, mostly in nickles, she just stopped me and sort of shooed me away.
All that's left for today's game of Show And Tell is the fruit basket which matches the ones I had on my porch last fall.
A girl can never have enough fruit baskets in her fall decorating arsenal.
Whew. All done now.
I feel much better now that I've gotten that all out of my system and you are up to date on my thrifty finds. I hate having things that I've shown on Instagram, but haven't shown on my blog yet. It just feels backwards, you know.
OK, see you all later. I'm off to find a brownie. Of the chocolate variety this time . . .
Sherry@Back2Vintage
What great finds! I see the yellow McCoy bowl matches a pink one on your sidebar....not bad!!! You did GOOD!
Linda @ Itsy Bits And Pieces
OH look at all of those goodies...I LOVE them all! Fun!

I always feel like if I show something on IG, then I have to blog about it right away. Then I feel like I have to apologize to the blog readers who also follow me on IG for the duplicate info. It's a vicious cycle, this finds sharing thing.
Love that camera and apple bowl. Way more fun to find them at a garage sale then behind a locked case door in an antique mall, huh?
Have a great weekend!

Wow. You are a great deal finder! I'm drawn to old cameras too. And typewriters, and globes, and . . .
Musings from Kim K.
I always love your show-n-tells! Love that McCoy mixing bowl. Love the price even better. Those salt-n-pepper shakers are pretty fantastic too! Big TIME score on the prices. Woo hoo!
Shabby chic Sandy
You have found some great stuff! I love that Brownie 🙂 So charming!
Claudia
I checked on ebay cause I love the yellow McCoy with petals/fishscales/feathers whatever they are called and they had them from US $9.99 - $49.99, nice finds!
Kerin
Great finds!
Can't beat those prices, either 🙂
Where do you put all of your great finds??
I have to get rid of something, when I find a great deal like that.
I would be on the next episode of "Hoarders" if I didn't ~~~ **hahaha**!!
Pam Kessler
I actually decorate with most of the stuff. Like the camera I'll put in a bookcase and I collect mixing bowls so those will go on top of my kitchen cabinets with the others. I do have a little shelving unit in the basement where I keep some spare decorating stuff and sort of rotate stuff back and forth between the upstairs and the basement. And then if I'm tired of it or it doesn't fit how I'm decorating, I may sell it at a consignment store. I really need to set up a booth at an antique store to sell some of it I think.
TARYTERRE
I can't get over these prices you paid. WHAT great deals. LOVE that Fire King bowl.
Jill
Great deals for you, especially the bowls!!!
Kirby Carespodi
I need some brownies, but not the camera kind, and not the Betty Crocker kind, either, unless you want to add some extra ingredients. Those brownies? Are the REAL McCoy.
Marissa
Wow those are amazing finds. You are lucky over here they just sell a bunch of junk at garage sales its stuff not even the salvation army wants.
So consider yourself very lucky.
Diane
I remember my Dad using a camera just like that on every childhood vacation we took! I'm constantly on the look-out for one but can never find one cheaper that $50.00. Yikes! That's not happening! Lucky you, it looks like you struck gold with all your finds!
Carlene @ Organized Clutter
I haven't been to many sales yet this year. I definitely would have picked up many of these items. I have a similar fan that I turned on the other night but it was really loud! Too loud! I really bought for looks anyway!
Melissa
What great finds!!! I would've bought all of it it, too. Try doing a simple bakelite test on the knives. Spray a little 409 on a q-tip and rub it on the bakelite for about 10-15 seconds. If the q-tip is yellow(ish) then it's bakelite. Note: this doesn't work on black bakelite (supposedly).
Pam Kessler
Great idea. I have Lysol and Spic & Span here, but I don't think those will work. I'll pick some 409 up when I go to the store tomorrow and see if they pass the test.
Vicki@MorePowerfulBeyondMeasure
Please move to Georgia! I need a good yard sale buddy! Love all your finds and you are right, got rid of and McCoy do not belong in the same sentence! Some people!! Keep the yard sale finds coming!! I have an Estate Sale and a wedding early Friday morning...guess which one wins.
Pam Kessler
You'll have to move up here since you're retired and all that now! Don't most retired people move North?
