Today was the last day of summer.
Yeah, I know about the autumnal equinox and all the jive, but to me summer has always ended on Labor Day.
I think it comes from my camping days.
When I was a kid we spent the summers at a campground.
Each Labor Day we packed up the aluminum lawn chairs and plastic owl patio lights and brought our little trailer back home.
It was always a bittersweet time, but there was a finality to summer ending.
Fast forward 40 years and it's time to put away the outdoor furniture and all this darn crap that I always think I need to "decorate" my porch with.
Nope, no plastic owl patio lights, but still a lot of stuff.
Ugh, it's so much more fun putting it out than taking it down, isn't it.
Do you put your summer stuff away now or make it last as long as possible?

Just found your blog and love all the neat items you have on your porch. You really are very creative; do you go to a lot of yard sales in your neighborhood or find some of the things at antique or Thrift stores? I was taken back by the succulents in the child's antique truck!

That is my favorite front porch idea - I love the stool. Sparks some ideas for me to try....thank you!

I keep most of outdoor decorating stuff up outdoors as long as I can spend time out there to enjoy them. Speaking of lights I hung twinkle lights out on my pergola just a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of my friends visit from St. Louis . We will be out there enjoying the fire pit!

Well, I put away my white shoes (old school, I know) but I am keeping my planters for as long as I can! I really love summer and it was so short for us this year- Holding on for a while longer yet....but I gotta admit- Your decorations are looking very Fallish and sweet- xo Diana

I LOVE fall, so I can't wait to decorate for it. I too, think of Labor Day as summer's end. Just always has been that way.
Lovely pictures! Can't wait for fall ones!!
Blessings,

It is barely ever that cold here but I do put the cacti, spider lily, and peace lilies in the shed for winter. Love the trike with the basket. I am on the lookout for a bike basket. xo,olive

Since the majority of my outdoor stuff is vintage, I put it away for the sake of making it last longer! Otherwise, the Oregon weather would RUIN it 🙁

Your porch is too pretty to put it all away. It's not fall here yet at all. 100+ every day.

Your pics are so pretty!
I don't give up the sandals easily, summer is short, I like it to last!

I have your owl patio lights (in case you're looking for them). They're staying out on the back deck and will probably hang over the ice rink this winter. I've officially retired the summer fireplace mantle.

Make it last as long as possible! I don't love Fall ---so sometimes I totally skip it 🙂

Your porch is so pretty, Pam...and I have to admit to putting out an old orange rocker and a big mum plant today...

Usually I make summer decorations last until the end of September, but this year I am more than ready for summer to end (too much rain)! Already have my yellow mums on the porch and planted pansy plants next to the steps. Honestly, Pam, I like the stuff on your porch!

Autumn stuff is already up.

Your porch looks so pretty! I leave my stuff out a few more weeks until we close the pool down.
Something Nice and Pretty
I started today to put stuff away little by little,a clay pot and got rid of a dying hanging basket. I'm going to try this to see if it's any easier to do. Summer ends for me too on Labor Day.
