Ideas for traditional fall porch decor using mums, pumpkins and cornstalks. Learn how classic colors for fall decorations outside can get you in the mood for fall!

    It's here!!!

Fall is here. It's porch decor day on the blog. And it's Farmhouse Friday. Three of my favorite things all rolled into one fabulously fun festive fall Friday!!!

Decorating my front porch is one of my favorite things to do!

Traditional fall porch decor modern farmhouse style.

I can decorate the inside of my house until the cows come home, but very few people actually see it in real life. Now the outside is a different story. We live on a semi-busy road and lots and lots of people see the porch as they drive by.

And I feel it's my civic duty to put a smile on their face as they drive by. OK, maybe they're smiling because they thinks I'm a nut, but a smile is a smile.

Mums, pumpkins and cornstalks on a fall porch.
My biggest question every year is whether I am going to put cornstalks on the porch or not.

I LOVE the look and it just is quintessential fall decor, but the mess. Man, the mess when it gets to be November and they are pretty much dried out and every little wind blowing will throw some more corn stalk pieces onto the porch and into the yard.

    Yep, they're messy.

So that's why I generally only put them up every other year. Just like childbirth, just about when you forget about the pain/mess you try it again and then remember exactly why you didn't put them up last year.

    2015 - cornstalks
    2014 - nope
    2013 - cornstalks
    2012 - nope
    2011 - cornstalks
    2010 - nope

So this year we're going with the stalks!

Other than the stalks, I pretty much went with traditional elements.

    Fall Decorations For Outside

A yellow table that I had put on my spring porch this year. Even though it's a bright yellow I thought it would be a good fall color.

Mums and pumpkins for traditional fall porch decorating

Some galvanized buckets and a peach basket. I had just watered the mums so that's why it looks like they peed on the basket and all over the porch.

A pumpkin. Because every porch needs a bright orange pumpkin.

Pumpkin and kale on a fall front porch.

I put the pitchfork that I had bought at a yard sale on the porch, but you really have to hunt to see it.

Using wooden crates for fall garden containers.

    And a quilt.

Purple fountain grass used in fall garden container.

This wreath is the one I made two years ago. I didn't see any reason to make a new one (other than have something else to blog about), so I dug it out of the basement and put it up this year.

DIY fall wreath with leaves and pumpkins.

I guess you can say I'm a little bit traditional in my fall porch decor this year.

Mums, cornstalks and bushel baskets for fall porch decor.

Psst - When it got closer to Halloween I transitioned this porch look into a Halloween one. See how I did it HERE - Transitioning The Porch From Fall To Halloween.

Just gorgeous! Very inspiring. Do you simply prop up your cornstalks, or tie them up somehow?

Your porch looks cozy and inviting, Pam! I love cornstalks, but the neighborhood squirrels do to, so it's kind of like asking for trouble. I'd love to sit on your porch and enjoy the sunshine and flowers. And wave at the passersby!

You are so talented at creating fall decor. I remember that wreath with the colander and still like it just as much this year. Now we just need some fall temps!!!

A front porch to enjoy passing. One of my granddaughters commented recently she was happy the garden was blooming so well, for the people who drove the road. Another generation gets it.
