What length hose were you able to wind into the pot you purchased? I inferred from what you wrote that 14" or more was probably suitable, but you did not mention (or you did and I missed it) what length hose this size pot will hold.

$1 shops have a great range of inexpensive planters. I took your advice and used an old picnic basket on my porch, planted with a variety of varigated real greenery. I cheated a bit and shuffled in a few faux flowers. Discreetly, but your visitors never notice and everyone comments on the welcoming greenery. I lined the basket with plastic and then put in the plants in slightly larger pots. They're thriving!
With thrift store shopping: look at the quality and consider changing the buttons. It can revive any piece. I paid $4 for a velvet Chanel style cropped jacket, changed the buttons and it brought the jacket back to life. Store the older buttons in a jar or box - you never know....

I like this idea, but maybe something with slats or other openings to keep the snakes and other creatures from living in it...I have actually been on the hunt for a solution to the hose issue in the backyard, and I thought to myself I could just make one!

I have used a mixture of baby powder and water to make a paste and rub onto the shepherds hook or whatever hanger you have. It stays on a long time and definitely works to keep the ants away.

What a great idea! I laughed at the hose and the line running down it and thought it looked like a snake too. We have so many right now coming out since the sun is shining.
