Look. There's one thing you need to know about me. I LOVE pink flamingos!
Sure, some people think they are gaudy. Or tacky. Or just plain ugly.
But in my opinion, the world would be a little less fabulous and a lot less colorful without a heaping dose of pink flamingo decor.
I think my love affair with the pink little guys started with this 1950's era pink flamingo salt and pepper shaker set. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they are a souvenir from Florida!
Just a hunch.
And I've always had at least one pair of the plastic ones in my yard for years.
That's a given. You can not be in the official Pink Flamingo Fan Club if you don't show your true colors with the classic yard decor.
I recently got all gaga over this fantastic flamingo fabric I found at JoAnn Fabrics in the outdoor fabric section.
I mean REALLY!
How cute is this fabric?
It sort of reminds me of barkcloth fabric from the 50's. Except it's not really as textural as barkcloth normally is, but it definitely has the look!
I made it into some snazzy porch pillows.
You can read more about my front porch decor HERE.
I had for a minute thought of making it into curtains, but then the whole "what am I going to do with pink flamingo curtains in my dining room at Christmastime" thought flew into my head and deterred me. The vibrant pink flamingos don't exactly go with green and red and a whole lot of ho ho ho.
Wait, or do they?
I decorated an entire Christmas tree in a slightly kitschy pink flamingo theme. OK, it was for Christmas In July, but it still was CHRISTMAS!

I got to thinking that I cannot be the only person who loves pink flamingos, so I scoured the internet to find some other neat flamingo projects and ideas.

As soon as I saw the flamingo fabric online, I went to both JoAnn's in my town and bought all that flamingo fabric they had. It looks beautiful on white wicker chairs!. Something so comforting to me about those colors.!!
🙂

Yay!!! I love that stuff. I was thinking of making curtains for my dining room with it, but my husband thinks that's going too far 🙂

Love love love flamingos! That fabric looks retro - love it! I can't go to JoAnn's because I would buy that whole bolt. Not that I can sew or anything. It would stay on the bolt and just be admired. Flamingos are hard to find for me. But I did get a flamingo cookie jar when I went to upstate New York last summer. I also found a flock of small resin flamingos at a church sale. They were silly looking and look like they might have come from Dollar Tree but I bought them anyway - about a dozen or so. Years ago I had a couple of plastic flamingos just outside my first condo door but the home owner's association asked me to put them away - I was in my 20s and remember being very pissed because others were allowed to have spinning plastic flowers! And I'm going to kick myself for a long time - there was a 5-1/2 foot tall metal one for sale for $25 on OfferUp this weekend and I didn't jump right on it! It sold in a day.

Flamingo lover! The fabric is fabulous and I can't wait to see your pillows! Our oldest daughter forgot her flamingos in her front flower bed until she was decorating for Christmas, so she tied a winter scarf around each of their necks. Her neighbors loved them!
Lots of flamingo eye candy here and now I'm off to see the wedding.......

Well, I can't say that I have ever been attracted to pink flamingos. But after reading your post I think I have a new appreciation for them. I just can't see myself putting a plastic one in my yard, though. But, I totally support all of you out there that love them and encourage you to use them in whatever way pleases you. I mean if you love something, you love it and I think your life is enhanced by embracing your love for whatever it is and even maybe flaunting it a bit. It gives you character and individuality. And even if you lived next door to me I would not bat an eye if you put ten pink flamingos in your yard. I 'd know you were a very interesting person whom I should get to know! Go, flamingo fans!

That fabric is adorable (pink is my favorite color), so it's right up my alley. Love the vignette with the paper plates & straws by the pool! I'm with you on going to Joanne's. Can't just buy one thing, can we? In fact, I think Joanne's is calling my name. I know of something I need!

Just picked up flamingo food picks and "swizzle" sticks at Target. Theme party here we come....

I LOVE pink flamingos. I have a couple of the plastic ones my nephews bought me for my anniversary. I want that fabric and I just may create some curtains from it for my dining room slider. It is just perfect for me and thankfully my husband lets me do whatever I want in the house. He will most likely enjoy the flamingo curtains as much as I!
